One difference was that these relics were each linked to a god trapped in another plane of existence. Party had to go find X Artifact in Y setting. Long story short, my campaign had some striking similarities to Balance.
I hope to see others share their own original relics, and any help improving my own relic would be much appreciated. I got inspired with this idea when I came up with my changeling character, and seeing that their shapechanging is limited to humanoids of similar anatomy, their deepest desire when creating the Relic would be to become whoever or whatever they wanted to better fit into society. On some recorded occasions, this realization of complete lost identity causes the user’s shapeshifting to become more monstrous, until they finally become a mix-matched amalgamation of some or all of their previous forms. However, the longer the user wears the mask and transforms, they slowly forget details of themselves until they can no longer remember their true form or who they are. When worn, the user is able to transform into an exact copy of any humanoid or creature they’ve seen in person while wearing it, while also gaining any abilities or memories of the thing they’ve copied. I’m a few episodes away from finishing the Balance Arc of the Adventure Zone, and I’m so interested in the concepts of the Grand Relics that I’ve wondered if anyone else has created their own idea of a relic.įor me, I’ve come up with “The Shape-Shifting Mask” or “The Mask of a Thousand Faces.” It is a plain white mask with no eye or mouth holes, but the user can still see.
